Want to make Smart Guides even smarter? Sometimes on a crowded layout InDesign’s Smart Guides seem to want to snap the item you’re dragging to everything but the one thing you actually want to snap to. In that case, try turning off some of the Smart Guide options in Guides & Pasteboard Preferences. For example, you might not want to snap to both Object Centers and Object Edges.

Bonus tip (technically not related to Smart Guides, but since we’re talking about things that appear when you drag an object): Remember that Transformation Values always appear to the right of your cursor. So if you get in the habit of grabbing items near the right side of the frame, this info will never be unreadable on top of a noisy image.
