Letter from the Editor
A few years ago, I had the pleasure of taking a cross-country road trip with the one and only Nigel French. It was a wonderful experience and a well-documented one, too, as we pulled over to take photos any time we passed something interesting to either of us— from colorful canyons to misty mountains, and loads of gloriously faded Americana in between. While I’m happy with the photos I took with my little iPhone, Nigel was working on a whole different level, capturing images with a DSLR, then curating and processing them in Lightroom, Photoshop, and Adobe Camera Raw. I watched him assemble panoramas that did those canyons justice, bring out colors and detail that simply didn’t exist in my snapshots, and blend images to achieve focus effects that even his camera could not. So, I got to see firsthand the advanced photo techniques that he shows in this month’s feature article. All I can say is, if you enjoy working with images, prepare to be amazed and inspired.
One thing that Nigel didn’t have on that trip was access to the powerful mobile versions of Lightroom and Photoshop for iPad. But Jeff Carlson’s got you covered, so you can learn how to perform high-end image processing anywhere you go.
And, the photo party’s not over yet, as Theresa Jackson shows how to blend photos with illustrative effects to make a unique style of art.
We also have a pair of articles for InDesign efficiency aficionados (say that three times fast). Alan Gilbertson shows how to unlock the power of linked content, so you can use the same piece of text in a bunch of places, with different formatting, and sync all edits with a click. Then, Steve Laskevitch shares a speedy way to place and format Markdown text in InDesign with the help of a script you already have.
We also have the best of CreativePro.com, including articles on accessibility legislation, InDesign tables, Illustrator shortcuts, and the wacky and wonderful interrobang.
Enjoy!
