December 4, 2015 at 9:53 pm in reply to: Suggested Proof Versioning Workflow, Process, or Script? #79959
David BlatnerKeymasterWell, there is always Acrobat and its annotations and commenting system.
Another option is the relatively new PageProof: https://pageproof.com/online-proofing-for-designers
Have you looked at it?
David BlatnerKeymasterThere are a number of options, such as:
https://creativepro.com/making-numbered-tickets.php
and
https://creativepro.com/creating-sequential-numbers-data-merge-script.php
David BlatnerKeymasterXML is rarely simple, in my experience, and it is definitely not simple to “round-trip” XML (export and import). I would suggest looking at IDML export solutions, or something like WordsFlow (emsoftware.com).
David BlatnerKeymasterI don’t think Data Merge is the way to go. And the only way to replace the numbers with the text is through Find/Change. You could set up all the find/change queries with FindChangeByList.jsx, or you could use Multi Find/Change, but as this is a one-off thing, I think you’re probably just going to have to do it manually. Painful and slow, yes, but sometimes “brute force” is the easiest way.
David BlatnerKeymasterNot natively, but Ole Kvern wrote about this and offered a script in this article:
https://creativepro.com/indesign-cad-tool.php
David BlatnerKeymasterSony used to do this, but I’m not sure if it has been updated for CC 2015.

David BlatnerKeymasterWhy did the tip in that article not work for you?
Did you see the various additional suggestions in the Comments section at the end of that article?
David BlatnerKeymasterI think what you’re looking for is the feature called “Space Before” or “Space After.” You can find these fields in the Control panel (when it’s in paragraph mode) or in the Paragraph panel. (Or, better, when editing your paragraph styles, in the Indents and Spacing pane.)
David BlatnerKeymasterThere are several ways to do it, though none of them are as good as the new CC feature.
For example:
https://creativepro.com/highlighting-an-entire-paragraph-with-color.php
https://creativepro.com/one-cell-table-highlight-paragraph-text.php(But again the best option is to upgrade to CC.) :-)
David BlatnerKeymasterPart of it is easy, and part is hard…
Here you go Jake:
https://creativepro.com/creating-two-or-more-automatic-text-flows.phpand another thread that discusses it:
David BlatnerKeymasterYou are correct that InDesign cannot have different measurement units for different things. But you can type your own measurements in. For example, if you have your measurements set to cm, then you can type
1/2"in a field and it converts inches to cm.November 30, 2015 at 11:02 am in reply to: Crowdfunding/lending campaign for my printing startup #79689
David BlatnerKeymasterHi Andreas, looks like you have a great idea going here. I hope my small donation will help. Good luck with it!
