David BlatnerKeymasterI know this isn’t until June, but I believe we’re going to be running a “scripting and automation for beginners” full-day session at PePcon: The Print + ePublishing Conference, this June 8, in San Diego as part of the Creative Developers Summit.
David BlatnerKeymasterI’ve had that happen when sometimes paragraph styles aren’t properly applied, or the styles that I think are applied actually aren’t. For example, maybe you accidentally have “Heading1” and “Heading 1” styles.
David BlatnerKeymasterAre all the first codes “all numbers”? And are all the second codes start with the letter H (or HY) and end with numbers? You need to be extremely specific when searching with grep.
David BlatnerKeymasterPreflight won’t check for bleeds, unfortunately.
Here are some articles about it:

https://creativepro.com/right-bleed-print-pdfs.phpActually, technically preflight can help, but it doesn’t by default:

David BlatnerKeymasterJustine, it sounds like those notes are “annotations” in the PDF. I don’t know if Illustrator can read annotations. You might consider using a tool like PDF2ID from Recosoft to open the PDF in InDesign. Not sure it would work, but worth a try!
David BlatnerKeymasterHm. Good point. I should have tried it before typing.
I’ve played with a few ideas, but nothing works. Great puzzle! But my intuition is that there is no good way to do this without a script or plug-in.
If anyone can prove me wrong, I’d love to see how they do it! :-)
David BlatnerKeymasterTricky! I like your idea of a table. If you had a table with 1 column and 2 rows, then the top row/cell would expand with the data. You could set the vertical alignment of the bottom cell to Center.
David BlatnerKeymasterI sometimes use a white frame, anchored in a heading paragraph, and placed precisely with an object style, so that it covers up part of a rule. I’m typically using this in a table, but I think it would work for what you’re doing. Of course, it has to be pasted in manually, and can’t be part of an object style.
David BlatnerKeymasterOkay, let’s go back to the beginning:
* What inks are the printer going to be printing with? Black and a spot color? Or cyan and magenta? Or what?
* Are you placing these images into an InDesign document that also has color? What colors are you using there?
* Do you have any examples of what you want it to look like? You cannot upload images here, but you can upload them to a different site and then place a link here for us to see.
David BlatnerKeymasterYes, this has been a source of frustration and many workarounds for years, including:

David BlatnerKeymasterIt may be the Welcome screen. Try turning that off, then restarting InDesign?

David BlatnerKeymasterYou could perhaps use Multichannel mode instead of Duotone mode in Photoshop.
Consider these articles:

David BlatnerKeymasterThat would be very hard to do in a PDF file, I think. Maybe as a placed SWF/Flash file, but then it would not work on mobile devices or computers that don’t have Flash installed. Maybe use Publish Online instead?
