One of the great mysteries of creativity is how it can seemingly come and go without warning. Some days you might be bursting with more ideas that you have time to pursue. Other days, well, ya got nothing. And for most folks, the pressures of looming deadlines don’t help a case of creative block. So what do you do when you need some fresh concepts fast? Surf your favorite sites? Pick up a magazine? Steal from a friend? Here’s something that might get you going faster and give you many more interesting possibilities to explore. It’s an app for iPhone and iPad called The Brainstormer from Tapnik, and it’s billed as "kindling for the creative mind." And until January 12th, it’s free.
With the app you generate ideas by spinning three wheels to combine concepts.
You can spin all the wheels for a random combination, or you can lock down one or more wheels to narrow the possibilities. You can also spin one wheel at a time to build a concept. You can build and add your own custom word wheels or purchase addtional ones like Character Creator, World Builder, and Imagined Animals.
So next time you’re fresh out of ideas, give the wheels of Brainstormer a spin. You never know where you might end up.
