Letter from the Editor
It’s hard to overstate how much I love books. On a Saturday, I’ll drop whatever I’m doing to check out a library book sale. Whenever I travel to a new city, finding the cool book stores is a top priority. I enjoy making books just as much as reading them. I’ve spent over 25 years producing books of every size, shape, and topic, and even writing a couple. My main creative hobby is making books by hand for my friends. So, this month’s feature article is near and dear to my heart. And there’s no one better qualified to teach efficient production methods for making books and other long documents than Keith Gilbert. In his article, Keith focuses on using the Book panel in InDesign along with some great scripts to tame even the largest book production projects. As an added bonus, the Resource of the Month is a collection of ten additional free scripts for working with long documents.
Alan Gilbertson also knows a thing or two about complex publishing projects. He shares his wit and wisdom on how to approach the potentially daunting task of updating old projects in “CSI: InDesign.”
Jeff Carlson is back with another great take on Lightroom. This time, he shows the benefits of capturing and using location data in your photos.
There are few people I consider geniuses in their application of choice, but Monika Gause definitely fits that description when it comes to Illustrator. Her deep dive into the unexpected things you can do with blends is a real eye opener.
Just in time for autumn, Erica Gamet brews up a pumpkin spice–flavored batch of goodies for InDesign users in the InFocus.
And we have more great content curated from CreativePro.com, including articles on using object styles to mark InDesign content, hacking cross-references to cover page ranges, bypassing an annoying “missing fonts” bug, making 3D text in Illustrator, and using a key prepress technique for color photos in Photoshop.
Enjoy!
