This has been a longstanding problem… I’ve never seen an adequate explanation for why it sometimes happens to some people.

That is correct… when InDesign links to XLS files, it is very difficult to update properly in InDesign.

Yes, that is a very good one! But that is for Photoshop, not Illustrator, I believe.
I don’t know of any script that does that, Michael. There may be one, but I haven’t seen it.
