David BlatnerKeymasterNot sure why you’re getting errors, Stefan. Might have curly quotes in there or something. This works for me.

David BlatnerKeymasterHere’s more on Track Changes:
David BlatnerKeymasterDo you have Align to Baseline Grid turned on?
Or is it possible that you have Space Before AND space after set to the same amount?
David BlatnerKeymasterGREP styles could work if it’s just a few words… but if you’re looking for a list of 20+ words and phrases, then I think it’s probably better to use a tool like IndexMatic — which is designed to create indexes, but I think you might be able to use it for this, too:
Building an Index Using Character Styles or External Word List
or
David BlatnerKeymasterI don’t get it… did Julia Child not approve of the word “gentlemen”?
David BlatnerKeymasterWhat you’re trying to do is difficult, because you have all kinds of leading and spacing going on. First of all, I would strongly suggest using split or span columns instead of trying to thread to a new frame. I’ll put links below on how to do that.
But even then, you’re going to have a challenge. Let’s say your leading is set to 12 points for your Instructions, and 10 points for the introduction text. The only way you could make them align is if you put 2 points of space between the paragraphs of the introduction, right? Because 10 + 2 = 12. Alignment is all about math… the leading + space before + space after must always equal the basic leading value (or a divisor of it).
David BlatnerKeymasterAh! Now I get it. This is a great question, and it reminded me that there is a secret, hidden feature that does what you want: “Fit Selection in Window.” I believe it only works with a keyboard shortcut, which is by default Command-Option-= (equal sign). However, on the Mac, that shortcut may zoom in to fill your screen (it does for me), which is annoying. So I added my own custom keyboard shortcut (I’ll add a link below for how to do that). You can find this feature in the Product Area –> Views, Navigation… just scroll down to find Fit Selection in Window.
So, once you have a shortcut that works, you can type it and InDesign will zoom in on whatever is selected… no matter what page you’re on.
David BlatnerKeymasterYou can choose Layout > Go Back
But I’m not sure how this is happening for you… if I have something selected on page 2, and I jump to any other page (except page 3), that object becomes deselected so I cannot delete it.
David BlatnerKeymasterIn my tests, the text doesn’t actually shift. I usually see a small change on screen on some (but not all) letters on the line, but I’m 99% sure that it’s just a screen redraw issue. Are you sure things are actually changing?
David BlatnerKeymasterLeslie, sorry for the delay… your post was held for moderation for some weird reason.
My guess is that it’s not the computer, but rather your document. It sounds like the default character style was set by accident. In the document, deselect everything on the page and then look in the Character Styles panel. My guess is you’ll see a character style selected. Click “None” instead.
This is a very common problem in InDesign, and can drive people crazy wondering what happened!
