David BlatnerKeymasterIt only works with multi-level numbering… increase the Level field at the top and it becomes active. More here:

David BlatnerKeymasterNo, it is just always like this, from one version to the next. Always has been.
David BlatnerKeymasterNope. IDML is the only path, I believe.
IDML was never meant to be a perfect, seamless conversion. But unless you’re using specific CC features, it should be pretty close.
David BlatnerKeymasterWell, that is actually what shared hyperlink destinations are about. If the person used a shared hyperlink destination, then you can change it once in the Hyperlink Destination Options dialog box (from the panel menu) and it changes it throughout.
David BlatnerKeymasterIt was in the most recent issue of InDesign Magazine, I think. Mike Rankin wrote it up, based on this earlier blog post: https://creativepro.com/a-closer-look-at-check-spelling.php
(But I believe there’s more in the mag article than the original post, especially how the shortcuts have changed more recently.)
David BlatnerKeymasterAh, you’re right… that script doesn’t work in CS5 and later. However, there is a newer version that does, which you can find here:
https://creativepro.com/convert-multicolumn-text-frames-to-individual-frames-script.phpThanks for watching that lynda.com course!
Here’s a link to that 10 Free Must-Have Scripts course at lynda.com, for other readers.
David BlatnerKeymasterI don’t think it’s a demo problem. I had something similar happen to me and it was what Justin described in #1. I had not put anything on top, so I was confused; but then I realized I used the slider feature (the thing that lets me swipe from one page to the next), and I think that put a big invisible object on top of everything. Check those output settings.
David BlatnerKeymasterMark, I just want to confirm: It’s relatively easy to remove the slash from the text (using something like @Salieri’s grep find/change). It’s just not easy to change the underlying hyperlinks… the stuff in the Hyperlinks panel.
David BlatnerKeymasterOuch. ID does not make this easy.
I wonder if you could do it by exporting to IDML, then opening that IDML in an XML program (like oxygen) and doing the find/change there.August 26, 2013 at 1:37 pm in reply to: Using Find/Change to put brackets around formatted text #65018
David BlatnerKeymaster@Kimmi: No problem! I actually thought your method would work at first; but then when I tried it, I remembered that $1 won’t work until you actually find something — and even then, only the part that is inside the parens.

David BlatnerKeymasterIf you want to do this for all italic text:
* choose the GREP tab at the top of the find/change dialog box
* type(.+)into the Find What field
* use the Find Formatting area at the bottom of the dialog box to find italic text (or the italic character style you’re using, or whatever)
* in the Change to field, type [$1]Hit change all.
it didn’t work before because you didn’t have anything to find before. You need something in parenthesis in find what.
David BlatnerKeymasterIt is very hard to know, Rajesh. One expert, Diane Burns (who did the multi-lingual publishing title at lynda.com… I highly recommend this!) said: “at the very least, need to apply the World-Ready composer. And some fonts just don’t do well in ID. For example, some of the SE Asian fonts that Apple installs in the system use an Apple technology (AAT) that conflicts with InDesign’s composition engine, so you can’t use them with the WR composer and if I remember correctly, maybe not in InDesign at all.”
David BlatnerKeymaster@Salieri: Perhaps you should write up an Edge Animate article for the site! :)
Feel free to email me about it (david aht indesignsecrets dotcom)
David BlatnerKeymasterGreat question, Salieri. The future is hard to see! :)
Personally, I think that HTMl5, EPUB3, web apps, DPS, and maybe even PDF will all start to merge into a universal solution. For example, I want Adobe to:
* build webkit into Acrobat so I can use HTML5 inside PDF files
* allow me to embed an epub into a pdf file, so that I can view either one (either fixed layout or reflowable epub text)
* make a DPS reader that is ubiquitous, so that I can read a folio on the desktop, tablet, phone, web, etc., and can distribute it myself without having to go through Adobe or the Apple store, etc.I think the most likely end, however, is that EPUB3 will be the solution for most people’s needs in 3 or 4 years.
