David BlatnerKeymasterNot really the same thing, but might have some insights:
https://creativepro.com/how-can-i-align-double-digits-in-a-numbered-list.phpOr you could convert the text into a table and center align that column.

David BlatnerKeymasterIf you have applied paragraph styles to the text, it is not very hard to delete the text after you import it:

David BlatnerKeymasterDarlene, are all these chapters in a single InDesign document? So you can see chapter 3, right?
So, Dwayne is saying that the text frames may not be THREADED together. (Dwayne, I much prefer the word “threaded” instead of “linked,” because links are what show up in the Links panel. Or some people would consider documents “linked” in a Book panel.)
InDesign is not like Word, where everything is one long story. In your case, perhaps the “story” (the chain of threaded frames) ends at the end of chapter 2. You can tell by selecting the last frame with the Selection (arrow) tool. If the square “out port” in the lower-right corner has a little triangle in it, it means it’s threaded to another frame. If it has a red # in it, then it means it’s overset (too much text to fit into the frame. If it is blank then it’s the last frame in the story.
From what you’re describing, you should be able to select the text in chapter 3 just by clicking it with the Text tool. If not, it’s also possible it’s locked for some reason.
David BlatnerKeymasterSorry, Andro, I’m not sure why our system thought your question was spam, so it did not appear. I fixed it.
Perhaps this helps:

David BlatnerKeymasterInMath is now MathTools, so I don’t know, but perhaps the free MathTools Reader will help?

David BlatnerKeymasterThat is probably just the “end of story” character that appears when Type > Show Invisibles is turned on.
David BlatnerKeymasterCharles, you know another good article to read is:
https://creativepro.com/setting-up-numbered-lists-that-jump-frames-in-cs3.php
That might help a little with the numbering order?
David BlatnerKeymasterThat might be possible in Acrobat, using scripting or something (see pdfscripting.com) but no way to do that in InDesign.
David BlatnerKeymasterI have heard so many bad things about Acrobat DC that I am only a little surprised, but I honestly have not tried it yet.
Do all form fields fail, or just ones with effects?
David BlatnerKeymasterThat’s odd. You are in the GREP tab of the Find/Change dialog box? (Not the normal Text tab.)
David BlatnerKeymasterI’m sorry, I can’t think of any good way around that.
David BlatnerKeymasterUnfortunately, there is no easy way to do this in InDesign. I know that Adobe is aware of it, because they have seen this:

David BlatnerKeymasterHi Anu, you just posted your question a couple of hours ago! Often it can take a day or more for people to answer. Your language is fine.
I suggest you look through some of the blog posts about this feature here:
https://creativepro.com/tag/numbered-listAlso, search the forum for similar questions, such as:
David BlatnerKeymasterRichard,
LOL! Yup, “the.” (I haven’t graduated to a capitalized “The” yet.) ;-)
Ah, perhaps the “conversion” is different than I was imagining. Yes, generally all older documents get “converted” — that is they show up with [converted] in the file name — when you open them.
David BlatnerKeymasterYou can’t change the laws of physics (or InDesign). :-)
Perhaps you could use x-references instead of the table of contents feature:
https://creativepro.com/figure-numbering-in-indesign-and-cross-references-to-them.phpor set up the numbering separately:
