David BlatnerKeymasterAnother option is to set the opacity of the Object to 50% instead of the Fill.
More on “knockout group” and other effects here:
David BlatnerKeymasterHere’s how to reset your preferences:
David BlatnerKeymasterI believe the character you’re describing is the Num Pad Enter key. So I’m thinking maybe it was set to the Enter key instead of the Return key?
David BlatnerKeymasterI don’t think Lato TT would be from Adobe Fonts. Perhaps the new laptop already has Lato on it, and you need to remove that?
On the new PC, create a new doc and type some text in Lato TT. Then open Type > Find/Replace Fonts, and click the More Info button. Select the Lato TT font. In the more info section, it should show you where on your computer that font lives.

David BlatnerKeymasterWow, that’s fascinating. My understanding is that feature splits up the PDF into one-page chunks, only the current page has to be read to be displayed. It is much faster to download 1 page than 500!
I’m surprised that the TOC linking doesn’t work correctly. I wonder if that’s just one type of browser, or everywhere. I can’t test it at the moment.
But I can see how if you force people to download the whole PDF, it’ll take longer at first, but then they have the whole document to work with.

David BlatnerKeymasterUnfortunately, InDesign is not very smart. It does not understand the words or the language. It can only find types of characters, using GREP.
For example, if I write “hola amigo” and “hello friend” then InDesign has no way to understand that the first one is Spanish and the second one is English. They are all just “latin” characters.
So you can find “Chinese characters” or “Hebrew characters” but that is all. If your Indonesian is written using latin characters, then InDesign has no way to tell what is what.

David BlatnerKeymasterThis is strange because I think you posted about this 10 years ago and got many answers.
Here is a good blog post for you:
David BlatnerKeymasterThe only thing I can think of is that when you convert to outlines, the Overprint Fill option turns on in the Window > Output > Attributes panel. Can you look there to see if it’s set to overprint for some weird reason?

David BlatnerKeymasterYes, as Nick said:
If I go to the “S1 – About this User Manual” parent page and cmd-shift-click the gradient box (to detach it from the BT parent page), then it suddenly works properly. So it seems like there may be a bug with applying a parent page that is based on another parent page?
David BlatnerKeymasterThere are several major ways to convert PDF files to InDesign. Adobe is working on this technology, in their current “public beta” of InDesign”
https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/convert-pdf-to-indesign-file.htmlHere are other methods:
- PDF2ID from Recosoft is very good: https://creativepro.com/inreview-pdf2id/
- PDFMarkz from Markzware: https://creativepro.com/inreview-idmarkz/
- Keith mentioned Legup Tools which is the newest entry into the field. Keith is writing a review of this for a future issue of CreaitvePro Magazine
David BlatnerKeymasterWow. Fascinating! I’m sorry to hear about this, but I’m glad Adobe seems to be aware of the problem.
