TypeFitter Pro Gains Column-Balancing Features
Teacup Software has released new features in InDesign plug-in TypeFitter Pro to balance columns and to fix short columns at the end of stories. The new features will automatically detect and fix problem columns or stories. Ideal for book publishers, these features drastically reduce production time while maintaining high quality typography.
Gap-toothed columns
The column balancing feature works by detecting gaps at the bottom of a column. If it finds any gaps, it will try to fix them by loosening or tightening the rest of the text in the column. This approach won’t affect the vertical spacing of a column, so it work great with documents where text has to always be aligned on a baseline grid.
Stubby chapter ends
Have you ever read to the end of a chapter, only to find that the last page has only two lines of text? That’s bad typography, and TypeFitter Pro now has a rule that will banish this problem forever. The new rule will detect a column at the end of a story that has only a certain number of lines (as configured by the user), and will tighten or loosen the text of the story to fix the problem.
Pricing and Availability
TypeFitter Pro is available for InDesign, InCopy and InDesign Server CS3 and CS4. It retails for $199 for InDesign and $99 for InCopy. For inquiries on the InDesign Server version, contact su*****@************re.com.
