New Labels Identify Sustainable Paper
PaperSpecs reports that the has distilled its 10 product labels to three:
1. The “Promoting Sustainable Forest Management” label indicates that a company is certified to SFI’s chain-of-custody standard. This tracks how much of the wood fiber in a product comes from a certified forest.
2. The “Certified Fiber Sourcing” label indicates that a company is certified to SFI’s fiber sourcing guidelines and/or Objectives 8-13 in the 2005-2009 SFI Standard.
3. The new combination label indicates the percent of fiber that sourced from a certified forest and the percent of recycled content.
SFI participants will fully implement the new labels by the end of 2009.
