Anastasiy’s MagicPicker plug-in (currently $19) has been re-written from the ground up and re-released as an HTML5-based panel for both Photoshop and Illustrator. Version 4.0 of this plug-in—and its lightweight counterpart, ColorPicker—now fully supports CC 2014 and works with Photoshop and Illustrator going back as far as CS3.
The newest version, besides shedding its Flash underpinnings, boasts a new color temperature wheel, allowing for separation of warm and cold color palettes. And seeing the colors as you mix is so much clearer with the introduction of big color swatches. One of the main draws of MagicPicker is that color is presented via a traditional and familiar color wheel, in either a triangle, box, or diamond configuration. This classic arrangement allows for choosing and comparing from complementary, triad, and mono color schemes, among others.
The panel itself can make use of the dark UI, and the panel and color wheel are scalable for the greatest clarity. When choosing a new color, MagicPicker shows the old color for comparison, and the engine for rendering the display is even faster than previous versions. Improved performance and compatibility, bug fixes, and free version updates round out the list of why this plug-in is a low-cost alternative the sometimes clunky color palettes native to Photoshop and Illustrator.
