Join the CreativePro Discord Server

2

CreativePro now has our very own Discord server! Whether you’re new to Discord or an old pro, we hope you’ll join us.

What is Discord?

Discord is a way for people to communicate — through text, voice, video, and screen sharing. If you’ve used Slack, you’ll get it immediately. But one of the best parts of Discord is that it’s open to just about everyone! Discord is now used by hundreds of millions of people around the world… now it’s your turn!

You can run Discord in a Web browser, or as a dedicated app on your desktop/laptop or mobile device.

Finding Our Discord Server

The CreativePro Discord server is currently “private” — which mean you need an invitation to get in. In the coming months, we’ll probably make the server public, so anyone can join.

If you have not yet received or found an invitation link, and you want to join us, please email us at [email protected] and tell us why you should be given an invite!

Once you get an invite link, note: It is time-sensitive, so be sure to activate and join right away.

Signing up for Discord in a browser

STEP 3

Once you’re registered:

  1. Click the plus (Add a Server) button in the far left sidebar (either in the browser or the app)
  2. Choose Join a Server
  3. Paste the invite link you copied.

The Discord interface is set up with servers on the left (1), channels to the right of the servers (2), and the current text chats in the large area in the center (3). On the far right you’ll see members of the selected channel (4).

STEP 4

Now that you have joined the CreativePro server, here’s a rundown of the next steps you should take:

The channels on the CreativePro server

  1. Start by clicking the “start-here” channel on the left-hand side. (This section just recaps the next steps, in case you lose these instructions.)
  2. Click the “rules” channel. Please read the rules! By continuing to the next steps, you agree to play by the group’s rules.
  3. Click the “verify” channel
    • Important: There are two checkmarks… be sure to click the second, smaller one—the one with numbers next to it! This says you agree to the rules.
  4. Click the “select-your-interests” channel
    • Now choose your interests in the by selecting the appropriate reaction… again, click the smaller icon—the one with numbers next to it!
    • If you’re already familiar with Discord: we use the term “interests,” but technically, you’re choosing “roles” here.
    • Your interests will give you access to specific channels on the server. (For example, choosing InDesign will give you access to the InDesign channels, etc.)
  5. Click the “introduce-yourself” channel. This is a text channel where you can let everyone know who you are, and what your interests are.
  6. Voice channels:
    • Some channels allow voice and video — the name will include “voice,” such as “General Voice 1”.
    • Important: Once you click a voice channel, you will remain in that voice channel until you click the Disconnect icon in the lower-left corner! This means you can be in both a voice channel and a text channel at the same time (so you can talk and type).
    • Click the microphone icon to mute/unmute yourself.
    • Click the headphone icon to “deafen” (you won’t hear sound from the channel and it will also mute you).

Communities are based on communication… so come connect with us on our Discord server today!
