Letter from the Editor
In a world where immensely powerful platforms like TikTok and YouTube command the attention of billions of users around the globe, designers everywhere are recognizing the need to add video to their list of marketable skills. But where do you start? The learning curve for applications like Premiere Pro and After Effects can be steep and intimidating. Simpler online tools exist, but they can be limited, and who needs another software subscription?
Wouldn’t it be nice if you could produce video and animation in an app you already know and love? You can! Chris Converse is here to show you how. In this month’s feature article, he demonstrates how to use Photoshop to create videos that get your design work moving and grabbing eyeballs. And the learning curve is barely a speed bump. If you know how to work with Photoshop layer properties like opacity, position, and effects, you know most of what’s needed to make videos. If you don’t believe me, try out the step-by-step tutorial in Chris’s article. I think you’ll be amazed at how easy and fun it is. Just remember to give Chris a shout-out when you’re onstage accepting your Oscar someday.
If they gave out Oscars for InDesign scripts, Peter Kahrel would have a trophy case full of them. His scripts for long documents are essential for filling in holes in InDesign’s feature set and saving you vast amounts of time and trouble, as Jeff Potter explains.
Next, Nolan Haims shares his best tips for getting content out of PowerPoint and into InDesign (and vice versa).
Dax Castro surveys the landscape of specialized careers in document accessibility.
Nigel French reviews OmniMarkz, a powerful solution for converting documents between various file formats.
And we finish with more great stuff from CreativePro.com, including articles on Illustrator artboards, Photoshop adjustment layers, getting SVG out of InDesign, and warping artwork in Affinity Designer 2. Enjoy!
