Letter from the Editor
Greetings and welcome, one and all, to the premier issue of CreativePro Magazine! Whether you’re a brand new subscriber or a veteran reader who’s been with us since the early days of InDesign Magazine, we’re thrilled to have you as part of our growing community.
I had the privilege of being editor of InDesign Magazine for almost ten years, and it was a wonderful ride. But I can already tell that this new gig is an upgrade. Now, in addition to InDesign, I get to cover new programs, work with new authors, tell new stories, and explore new realms of creativity. But the thing that excites me the most is the feeling that this new magazine can be an even more valuable resource for creative professionals. We’ve got some great stuff in store for you. So, without any further ado, let’s get to the goods!
When it comes to designing book covers, Hugh D’Andrade is a seasoned pro. In our feature article, Hugh guides you through the process of designing a book cover, from first inkling of inspiration to final ink on paper.
Next, Dave Clayton shares five favorite Illustrator power techniques that you’ll want to add to your vector arsenal.
Then, old pal Nigel French is back with another gem called “Finding Your Typographic Rhythm.” In it, he shows how to craft beautiful layouts that possess the same sense of structure, progression, and style that a great piece of music does.
Steve Caplin is also on hand to lend a bit of his unique brand of Photoshop wizardry to the proceedings, with a step-by-step tutorial on creating mosaic tile effects.
Erica Gamet highlights some nifty solutions for lists and long documents in the InQuestion.
We also have a group of articles curated from CreativePro.com, covering PowerPoint secrets, Photoshop prepress techniques, math from Microsoft Word, a review of a great plug-in for Illustrator, and a must-have script for InDesign.
Enjoy—and when you’re done, please let me know what you think of it all!
