Enjoy Excellent Photography While Supporting Haiti & the Red Cross
On January 12, 2010, Haiti experienced an earthquake that left the Port-au-Prince capital in ruins and brought enormous suffering to the country. Many aid organizations are mobilizing to help; for example, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Doctors without Borders, and Partners in Health. I encourage you to donate money or time to any that you know are reputable.
As of today, there’s another way to help that can also make you feel more connected to the people of Haiti. Onè Respe is a 40-page magazine filled with images of Haiti that were donated by several photographers, including renowned photojournalist Mary Ellen Mark. The fund-raising magazine costs $16, and every penny of that goes to the International Red Cross.
The phrase “Onè Respe” comes from a Haitian greeting meaning “honor and respect.”
Images from Onè Respe are below. To purchase the magazine, go to MagCloud.
