Colour Confidence Unveils Colour Accurate Capture with inCamera 4.0
Colour Confidence the colour management division of TypeMaker, today announced the availability of the inCamera® 4.0, a new version of the digital camera and scanner ICC profiling plug-in for Adobe Photoshop. Based on an enhanced version of the widely acclaimed inCamera colour management technology licensed from Pictographics International Corporation, inCamera 4.0 features support for the new GretagMacbeth ColorChecker SG and the HutchColor HCT target for scanners. inCamera 4.0 builds on Colour Confidence’s comprehensive product portfolio and is available for £84.95 excluding VAT from www.colourconfidence.com.
inCamera is designed to help the digital photographer achieve consistent, predictable colour with any digital camera or scanner. It employs Pictographics’ proven colour management technology to describe, with mathematical precision, the unique behavior and colour properties of any digital camera or scanner through profiling. inCamera evaluates the colour data captured by the camera or scanner, compares the data to the known colour values of the chart, and creates a custom ICC profile. This can be achieved by utilising the GretagMacbeth ColorChecker or the new ColorChecker Semi Gloss (SG) charts for digital cameras, and the HutchColor HCT or IT8 targets charts for scanners.
The profile may then be applied to all images shot or scanned under similar conditions, correcting the colour distortions of the camera or scanner to produce a colour corrected and profiled image ready for use in any project.
“A colour management professional can often be fighting a losing battle without colour accurate capture. inCamera 4.0 provides this accuracy and at an exciting price point,” commented Geoffrey Clements, Managing Director, Colour Confidence “This is another step in providing our discerning customers with all the pieces of the colour management jigsaw”
inCamera can also be used to profile scanners for negative film, previously an “untouchable” area of colour management, because of the unavailability of targets for negative film. The process, based on the digital camera profiling technology and the ColorChecker charts, is described in the inCamera User Guide, an integrated on-line guide to creating and using input profiles in a Photoshop ICC colour managed workflow.
inCamera produces the correct colour relative to the known reference standard, however colour reproduction can be an art as much as it is a science. It may be necessary to intervene in the process, providing guidance as to how colours should be handled. This is often what profile editing is all about. ICC profiles created with inCamera may be edited to suit your preferences with easy-to-use correction tools in iCorrect EditLab Pro, a companion plug-in to inCamera, also available from www.colourconfidence.com
New features included in version 4.0 of inCamera include:
- Support for the new GretagMacbeth ColorChecker SG chart: Additional grey scale steps provide accurate control of camera balance
- Support for the HutchColor HCT target from Hutcheson Consulting: Has around twice as many patches as IT8.7/1 & 2 (‘IT8’) targets, a better sampling of dark colours and almost three times as many grey scale steps
- Provides additional reporting on quality of image of the chart: Noise reporting and Lighting Uniformity reporting
- Custom Light Source Selection for optimizing your profile for your light source: If you are using one of the ColorChecker charts and you have selected a spectral data reference file, you can optimize your profile for your light source
- inCamera is compatible with Photoshop 6.0, 7.0 and CS and the following operating systems: Macintosh 9.2, and 10.X in both Native and Classic modes and Windows 98SE, Me, 2000, and XP.
