A Script for More Flexible Footnote Formatting
If you need more flexible footnote formatting in InDesign, including custom text above your footnotes, this script can help.

The options for footnote formatting in InDesign haven’t changed much since the feature was introduced many years ago. One limitation that bothers some users is the basic options for formatting the separator that appears between the footnotes and the body text.
If you’re one of those people, you might want to download this script, written by Anantha Prabu. When you run it, the script turns off the default separator line, and its place inserts a line of text formatted in a new paragraph style. This makes it easy to have text or an anchored graphic appear above your footnotes.

Note that you can edit the script to change the text that it inserts.

Been waitingva long time forvthis. Thank you. And how to insert a graphic as the seperator?
I’d use Find/Change.
Thank you for your reply. But seeing that this “divider” is really aprt of the foornote text and a real “hard” devider between the footnote area and the main text area, it wont work when a footnote spans over to other pages. I know i could add it in those cases manually, but then if i add text to the FN before that divider, the whole thing will get messed up.
I have a freind that wrote a script to really add a hard divider for footnotes – but i cannot afford anymore expences on my current project. Any ideas?
Thank you Mike
