Letter from the Editor
You’ve probably heard the saying, “Change is the only constant in life.” It’s credited to the Greek philosopher Heraclitus. He certainly doesn’t have the name recognition of a Socrates or Plato, but I’d say that bit of wisdom of his stands aside anything those guys wrote. It’s just as true (if not more so) 2,500 years after he wrote it.
We at CreativePro feel all the same forces of change that you do. We’re constantly adapting to them, sometimes in small ways, sometimes in big ways. This month not only marks the beginning of a new year, but also a new era at CreativePro. We’re making some pivotal changes to our offerings, which you’ll start to see as soon as you look at this magazine’s table of contents. It’s a lot shorter than in the past. As our motto says, this is by design. It’s not that we got tired of making 80-page magazines or ran out of things to say. Just the opposite, we feel more energized and optimistic about our work than ever before. We’re responding to your feedback and rebalancing our efforts to make membership a better product.
Our goal is to make each magazine issue more digestible, with a smaller collection of focused content that you can read and put to use faster. We’ll also be producing more video content, building a calendar full of amazing events, and offering new ways for you to connect to experts and solutions.
We begin this issue with the hottest topic around: Generative AI. In this month’s feature article, Kat Kremser walks you through four major new features in Illustrator that leverage GenAI. In future issues, we’ll take deeper dives into them as they mature into tools you’ll want to reach for regularly.
Going back to the theme of constant change, Conrad Chavez unravels the mysteries of Creative Cloud storage, a set of services that seems to always be in flux.
In the InDesigner, Hannah Peterson interviews Izzy Poirier (author of the feature article about multilingual design in issue 25) on the topics of her branding work and the incredible multi-sensory zines she produces with her colleagues at the Ottawa Design Club.
The Resource of the Month is a PowerPoint template containing easy-to-use vector maps. It was designed by Nolan Haims, one of the speakers at our online Presentation Design Conference, which will take place March 6–8.
And finally, we finish up with a set of quick tips for working with Photoshop masks by yours truly.
I hope you enjoy this issue and all the changes that are coming soon at CreativePro. If you have any thoughts you’d like to share, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’d love to hear from you!
