P22 Announcing: The Rimmer Type Foundry

P22 is proud to be the exclusive outlet for Jim Rimmer’s digital fonts. This digital type collection is the culmination of decades of typographic work at Rimmer’s Pie Tree press and type foundry. This is the first time that these fonts are available to the public.
Jim’s experience in graphic design covers 40+ years, encompassing positions in advertising agencies and design studios. He is a rare typographic craftsman who is fully at ease cutting metal typefaces by hand and working the same designs with Bezier Curves on a Macintosh computer. He has designed typefaces for his own books that he designs, illustrates, prints and occasionally writes himself, including Tom Sawyer to be released later this year. Jim Rimmer also made the digital versions of the Cloister, Deepdene and Garamont fonts for the Lanston Type Company in addition to being the Lanston Type Director during its time in Vancouver.
The Rimmer Type Foundry leans in the direction of traditional type forms but does address the need to offer more contemporary type styles. The brand new website shows the range of Mr. Rimmer’s work. The collection contains over 200 digital faces including the imposing 90-font “Dokument” family. Other faces include Albertan Oldstyle, Alexander Quill, Fellowship and Lancelot all of which have metal counterparts and are proprietary fonts found at Jim’s Pie Tree Press in Vancouver. In addition, Zigarre Script, Poster Paint, Cotillion & Amethyst are designs made exclusively for digital use.
The Rimmer Type Foundry joins the P22 family alongside the International House of Fonts, the Sherwood Collection and the recently acquired Lanston Type Company. The new 2006 releases of the Rimmer digital fonts are offered in TrueType, PostScript and now Opentype for the widest range of possible usage. Prices start at $19.95 for single fonts. Introductory discounts offered for the month of January.
Also available is an extremely limited edition private press book titled “Leaves from the Pie Tree”. This magnum opus is an autobiographical account of Jim Rimmer’s life with type and the book arts along with “how-to” knowledge of the craft that a rare few possess. The first 6 purchasers of the full Rimmer Type Foundry Collection will be offered the book at a discounted rate.
