Where to Find Great InDesign Templates, Part 2

Be sure to also check out Where to Find Great InDesign Templates, Part 1.

The Big Boy of the Template Set

The best known and most widely respected provider of InDesign templates is Oregon-based StockLayouts. With a catalog just shy of 2,000 templates, including a small selection of free samples, StockLayouts is definitely a big boy in the field of InDesign templates (see Figure 1). Moreover, StockLayouts is better organized than any template store. You can, of course, browse the catalog start to finish and search by keyword, but you can also view templates by type, from brochures to posters, and, potentially most useful, by industry. Looking for brochure templates built for the real estate professional? They’re a snap to find. Maybe you need to create a report for a medical industry client. That’s just as easy to find. Brochures for sports and fitness? Letterhead for financial services? Fliers for art schools? Business cards? Datasheets? All easy to find with filtering and advanced search. Most designs are even coordinated across templates for different formats. For example, choosing one brochure design will often also give you links to templates for matching flyers, ads, postcards, business cards, and letterhead.

Most templates are priced at $99, with smaller, simpler ones like business cards and labels often as low as $29. StockLayouts even offers buffet-style subscription plans that let you download 50 templates per month for the cost of only a single template.

The Largest Collection and Lowest Prices

A member of the Envato network of blogs and content catalogs, GraphicRiver boasts the largest collection of InDesign templates anywhere online. As of this writing, there are 3,717 InDesign templates available for sale on the site, most for under $10. The presentation of the templates is topnotch as well, usually showing images like those in Figure 2—page-by-page previews that give you a full look at the template before you plunk down your cabbage. Another very nice feature of GraphicRiver’s catalog is buyer ratings and comments; you can read reviews by other designers who have used a specific template. Many are not quite as polished as StockLayouts’, but GraphicRiver is definitely worth a look.
