Quote: … to find and style text between HTML tags
Thanks for such a clear explanation. I use a similar GREP search to make ID’s indexing italicize part of an entry, usually a book title. I place the text to be italicized inside « » characters and typically have to add a sort by entry that doesn’t have those characters. When I generated an index, I use that S&R to covert them.
Ah, but do you know the secret to getting GREP to locate HTML links? Some years ago I did a search for such a beast. I found a number of suggestions, but they were never perfect. Locating the start is easy. Just look for “http:”, but reliably locating the end proved impossible.
Given how common web links are today, both GREP (in general) and ID’s such function need to be revised to know how to spot them. When I’m preparing a book for publication, I need to turn some hyphens into N-dashes, but not touch those in web addresses—and those are extremely common. Making matters worse, many of both sorts are in footnotes/endnotes. It’d be great if ID included a search option to to include or not include web addresses in a search.
