Both of those are sound like very good solutions. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond!

Yes, i think ‘snap to nearest’ would definitely do the trick.
A lot of the documents i work on have columns and once I’ve exhausted the snap to margin option i’m back to lining things up manually. A round about way is to align one object to a column manually and then use it as a key selection for the rest of them but it still takes time and not as easy and selecting a whole bunch and clicking a button.
    Thanks

    Hi David

This solves the mystery why I wasn’t able to Unlink the Excel file from the links panel.
Once I enabled the “Create Links When Placing Text and Spreadsheet Files” checkbox in File Handling preferences and relinked the file, the Unlink option magically appeared.

The bad news was once I relink the file all the text disappears. The linked Excel file didn’t correlate with the actual copy in any way. This is a big document and there are a lot of linked boxes (i only sent one page) so it looks like I will have to recreate them manually.

It seem like whatever was placed before the checkbox was enabled cannot be unlinked anymore but the preference option mentioned should help avoid the same thing from happening in the future.

Thank you so much for that

Sorry about the files size above (i didn’t realise it was 48mb).

Here’s the same thing but much smaller (1.3mb).

Yes it was just that file. I didn’t create it so I had no history of what has gone on before but it sounds like it was some sort of glitch.

    Thanks for you help

Ok, so it seems that all vector files which are not displaying the scale are sitting at 100%.
As soon as I change the scale to anything bigger or smaller than 100% the scale comes up.

It seems like a bug even though I’ve had this problem across previous versions of InDesign so not sure what the deal is.

Hi, thank you for your reply.

Actually I realised that some vector images display the scale but most of them don’t. The scale fields are just left empty and I can’t figure out why.
If there was a way I could attach a screenshot I could show you what I mean.

Or in other words, is there a way to check the scale of multiple vector objects on a page?

We are using Macs and connecting to a Windows based server using the afp:// protocol.
The server is in the same building though.

    Thanks for your replies.

I’ve checked all those things. All the permissions are set to Read & Write and the file is not locked in any way.
The strange thing is that it doesn’t happen consistently but only 1 out of 2 times I open the file.
