MemberThat’s a great question. I have the same issue with an 8 chapter guide.
February 18, 2023 at 7:42 am in reply to: 7 docs, some common pages: can I make changes once that will apply to all 7 docs #14387664Steve Hall
MemberThis was great! How did I miss this fix after using InDesign for years? It works like any imported Photoshop or Illustrator file.
November 9, 2022 at 1:33 pm in reply to: Common INDD file with sections; want TOC to reflect selected sections. #14374673Steve Hall
MemberYes to both, however — unless I’m missing something (always possible) — the different parastyles don’t solve the problem of selecting pages and applying the TOC to the individual pages within the selected section.
November 9, 2022 at 1:28 pm in reply to: two indd docs, same text, different type size for each doc, shared editing #14374672Steve Hall
MemberThank you to everyone for their feedback. Everything is sounding very complicated, and it might be beyond my skills [probably age related]. I’ve rejiggered the file and manually entered the page titles for each section. I know, I know. I should take advantage of the Indesign tools.

I’ve used this sort of site for years. Works like a charm.

MemberI’ve used PDF/X-1a.2001 for many years. I just a made test PDFs using 2001 and 2008, and the files were exactly the same size.
Anne-Marie, what does 2008 offer that 2001 doesn’t? Should I make the switch to 2008?

MemberMassimo’s and Dhafir’s replies certainly point out my inadequacies with GREP… LOL

September 18, 2019 at 1:37 pm in reply to: Eeek! Eeek! Text jumping across multi-column text frame #14324102Steve Hall
MemberDavid,
< is the Vertical Justification set to Center instead of Top in the Text Frame Options dialog box?> No, it’s set to Top. It’s the darndest thing.
I’ve created a packaged text file [I can send the text file and the packaged ID file] using formatless text that I copied from the original doc [converted in notepad to Plain Text] that demonstrates what I’m talking about and then imported the styles from the original ID doc. I’ve created a new ID file, and for convenience, I’ve stripped out all Styles that aren’t used in this test file.
After you receive the package:
I’m assuming your machine or your indesign is not different than mine [Indesign cc 2019]. The final project doc is 20 pages.
If you scroll down to CALIFORNIA, and apply the “2 WEST Slab Boxed State or Country”, watch what happens to ARKANSAS. Happens on others as well.
There’s also a weird empty block of space above “cruise ship/resort liability.” at the top of the second column. Also, the “$2 million helicopter crash settlement” copy breaks strangely. When I attempt to pull the word crash up to the previous line [there’s plenty of room], it won’t work.
