There are tons of tutorials about the software you intend to use. Just search for: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Affinity suite (Publisher, Photo, Designer)…

If you do not insist on InDesign, you can do it in Affinity Publisher. It supports footnotes the way you like it automatically.

Have you tried to resize the text frame?
Maybe there is a big image, or large, bold, one word headline…?

Try this:
Create 2 additional columns in Word.
Create a new INDD file with 2 page.
Add a text frame on the first one.
Import the Word document.
SHIFT click on the red + sign on the lower right side of the text frame.

You can do it using GREP styles. They are GREP formulas inside paragraph styles.
