Thanks. I thought I mentioned that I need to print to a duplex printer. I have to show the client exactly what the final product will look like. Consequently, using a 11×17 page won’t work because the document is 5.5 x 8.5 single pages that when placed as a spread fit an 8.5×11 paper. If I use a 11×17 paper there will be extra unwanted paper.

I found Imposition Studio but I haven’t tried it out yet. I’m not a night person..

    Thanks again!

    Thanks, Graham.

I’m getting close but I’m not there. Thanks to your advice about the paragraph styles I am happy to say.

https://imgur.com/a/apgKYUi-baseline problem. Is it possible to do what I’m trying to do:use a 1 column and a 2 column with its own base line grid on the same page?

    Also,
I know it’s probably not advisable but I had a huge problem with the multiple soft and hard returns. Any alternatives given the situation?

    Thanks, Graham.

If I change the soft return to a paragraph return the leading is too big no matter how creative I get. Is there some thing I am missing that you can think of?

Yes I can export a single page pdf. https://imgur.com/a/JlHr243. I’d love to drag and drop pages in to spreads and then convert them to printer spreads but that seems too easy.. I found that creating a document by opening Acrobat and letting Distiller do the conversion. When I tried that the right page is cut off https://imgur.com/a/in4bEii. . I think I know I have to change the page orientation <File>document set up) but if I change it by file>document size everything gets all messed up. It feels like I am overlooking some thing very simple. I just can’t find it!

I got everything to work-almost. I got everything converts but the booklet only becomes as an EPS and changes the orientation to portrait.

Got the text to show due to overlapping text frame! Thanks for you help.

Thanks Dieter. I checked that it was not a duplicated text box as you suggested and it is not. I managed to make a several page document with the proper flow specified. Now I can’t get the text to show! https://imgur.com/a/9ON50Ax

    Any ideas?

    Thanks pnamajck.

I’m getting the hang of it but having trouble with setting up the margin according to an aspect ratio. I am not familiar using points except for type and I have no clue about picas. I’ve looked for tutorials on setting up a aspect ratios and can’t find a single one. I’ve found an intermediate level one (Nigel French) but it is assumed that I understand both the concept of aspect ratio and why I should utilize one.

    Thanks in advance

Some how I figured out laying out the grid (although I can’t quite remember).
I’m also trying to figure out how to change the increment of the grids. This link shows what I’ve come up with. This link shows what I’ve come up with. https://imgur.com/a/a37Soss.

    Michael and Graham,

I am trying to teach myself how to make tables. The data source is an Excel document which I just got. The thing is that it comes in pre-formatted and I don’t understand how to control its format to make it look better and ready to receive the styles I’ve created for it in InDesign. I tried to set up a table with 26 columns and 88 rows and this is what happens https://imgur.com/a/8S2Rc50

Thanks so much to both of you,
    Nicole

I’m getting close! I’m still putting things together just wanted to show you how far your help has taken me (https://imgur.com/a/uEXQ2a8). I have more questions-just wanted to say an interim thanks.

Next step is getting data to fill the thing. Stay tuned..

    Thanks Graham.

I’m still working through it (https://imgur.com/a/ZOOT8TJ) but I can’t figure out how to make just the header bold and the rest of the table not bold.

in reply to: new document #103914

    Got it!

I used Preferences>General>checked use Legacy “New Document” Dialog.

in reply to: vertical strokes in table #103716

    Thanks again Graham.

I got some success by using the table options. I need just the column stroke to go away. I’m still getting the hang of paragraph styles

I also need to have the row stroke to be below the content.

I’m struggling and your post is helpful.
