MemberHi Dan
This is an Apple iBooks feature and I don’t think this is possible using InDesign alone.
CircularFLO https://www.circularflo.com has this feature. See more info here https://www.circularflo.com/instructions/#background_soundtracks_and_page_turns
An example CircularFLO EPUB with background soundtracks added can be opened into iBooks on the Mac or directly into iBooks on iOS from here https://circularsoftware.com/XMAS/Ken_Jones_21.epub (the file is 34MB so may take a little while to show…)
Alternatively, if you are into hand coding, check page 69 of the iBooks Asset Guide https://itunesconnect.apple.com/docs/iBooksAssetGuide5.1Revision2.pdf
Thanks

MemberHi Paul
It is not possible to create fixed layout EPUB from InDesign CS6 alone.
However it is possible to use my company’s software CircularFLO to create fixed layout EPUBs and Amazon fixed layout KF8s using native InDesign CS6 files or from PDFs using InDesign CS6. Have look here https://www.circularflo.com

MemberWell yes and no!
You DO need Chrome for the Readium Extension but you can use their Readium JS in any modern browser.
Have a look at my quick explanation at the end of the blog post above and the example here https://bit.ly/2dmmbPY for an example which works nicely in Safari.
Thanks

MemberHi Kirk
I recommend using Readium to host the fixed layout epub on your client’s web server. Take a look at this article and see more info on Readium and an example of a self hosted EPUB at the end. https://bookmachine.org/2016/09/28/share-advance-copies-ebooks-without-suitable-device/
My company’s software CircularFLO actually offers a free extra feature to publish EPUBs straight to the browser using Dropbox and I can help you prepare something similar that works on your client’s web site too.
Please get in touch https://www.circularsoftware.com/contact/

MemberHi Rivkah
My company’s software CircularFLO https://www.circularflo.com works with InDesign CS6 and later and can quickly produce zoomable or searchable fixed layout ebooks to the Amazon KF8 format, as well as fixed layout EPUB3 too. This will preserve the look of your pages exactly.
Our software is Mac only and I notice from your screenshot that you are on a PC. If you don’t have access to a Mac we do also offer a service to convert to from your supplied PDFs.
Please get in touch for more info or to try a sample conversion.

MemberHi Christopher
The Fixed Layout EPUB3 standard already has in built support for this feature but InDesign alone does not provide a way to produce. My company has the answer in our software CircularFLO and time stamping is totally free for everyone until the end of August. See here https://www.circularflo.com/2016/05/27/circular-software-summer-sale/

I notice you are on Windows and our software CircularFLO is Mac only but we do offer read aloud fixed layout EPUB3 conversions as a service so if you are interested in that please drop us a line at https://www.circularsoftware.com/contact/

MemberYes you get valid EPUB3 and searchable text. When working from PDFs we use an option called ’embedded text’ which exactly preserves the appearance from the original page. All done automatically in minutes… get in touch if you want to a free trial! https://www.circularflo.com/contact/
Although it sounds as though you are looking for reflowable? Fixed layout is only EPUB3 and KF8 not EPUB2 so not an option.

MemberHi Uku
If you are looking to make fixed layout ebooks then my company’s software ‘CircularFLO’ https://www.circularflo.com can create fully searchable fixed layout EPUB3 and zoomable Amazon KF8 straight from your print PDFs via our tools working alongside InDesign on the Mac.
Starts from $99 per book for both KF8 and EPUB3. Exact reproductions, no hassles with fonts, no need to open the files and try to fix code…

MemberHi Steve
If your EPUB is valid against epubcheck https://github.com/IDPF/epubcheck but they are still rejecting then I or other people here will need to know why *specifically* it is being rejected in order to help you further.
Maybe post their rejection message? Or if they are not telling you why then you need to ask them to be more specific!
Thanks

MemberHi Jennifer
Yes, I feel your pain. Unfortunately it’s not that easy :(
My prediction is that the web will be the final resting place for interactive ebook readers…
My company’s software CircularFLO http://www.circularflo.com will allow you to publish an interactive fixed layout EPUBs to the web e.g. https://bit.ly/1Qm6HZv
At the moment this does require your readers to be online though… Let me know if that approach is suitable.
Thanks

MemberHi Jennifer
The Fixed Layout EPUB3 standard *allows* some really cool features to be included in a valid EPUB3.
However… not all device and reader makers can/will support them.It is obviously not an ideal situation and the https://epubtest.org attempts the unenviable task of keeping track of who supports what to make sense of all the different support but in the fast paced world of digital publishing it can be found to be dated and patchy…
In short though:
Apple iBooks and Readium are the one ones with best support for most features.
Adobe Digital Editions and Kobo are usually quite good too and worth a look.
Google Play supports the ‘simple’ stuff quite well, such as displaying pages but can’t handle much animation or any audio, video or read-aloud media overlays.
And if you are looking for any Amazon support for this kind of stuff – forget it!Hope that helps…

CircularFLO – make read-aloud EPUBs from $99Ken Jones
MemberRegarding the pricing of CircularFLO…
Static text on a path for books under 50 pages works out actually only $99 per book.
And for full automatic read aloud including text on a path too it is $199.If that is still too steep and you like to code then the free trial will output the text on a path SVG code for you to steal!
Spending days doing this manually is obviously a better use of your time and money, Bartosz, but for others please look here for more info https://www.circularflo.com/purchasing-options/

MemberHi Jack
My company’s software ‘CircularFLO’ https://www.circularflo.com will handle InDesign drop shadows and transparencies on live text and well as live text on a path.
Alternatively it will allow you to flatten the InDesign page designs whilst keeping all words fully searchable.CircularFLO also includes the KF8 for Amazon Kindle Store along with the fixed layout EPUB3 for Apple, Kobo, Google and others.
Apple iBooks Author will only export to reflowable EPUB3, the fixed layout ebooks it makes are not EPUBs and are only compatible with Apple iBooks Store.
Finally, just to mention these are ebook formats and not apps so these ebooks will be able to be provided to ebooks stores such as the Apple iBooks Store not the App Store as mentioned in your subject.
Hope that helps, you can go to https://www.circularflo.com/download/ for a free trial of CircularFLO.
Thanks
