MemberDo you mean that the line breaks stay the same even if you delete the forced line breaks/soft returns?
Or if the forced line breaks/soft returns come through, why not just search and delete them?
Or delete the them in the PageMaker file before copying and pasting?
EDIT: If it’s the first (i.e., line breaks stay the same with the line breaks/soft returns deleted, then you can try to recompose. I think the keyboard shortcut is (command-option-/ [Mac] ctrl-alt-/ [Windows]).

MemberHere’s the first thing I noticed–it appears the two heads are the same–but the hard return on “POSSIBLE CAUSES” seems to be a smaller point size than the hard return for “APPEARANCE.” I wonder if it’s a different point size and leading. If that return is a different leading and applies to the entire line–then that could be the problem.

MemberTo be honest–that’s though to say.
How complicated in your planner? Actually–what do you mean be a planner? To me a planner is a calendar.
Are you going to be using InDesign a lot of the time or occasionally?
The first thing I would do is google basic things about InDesign (such as paragraph styles, character styles, etc.) to get you familiar with the terms and the basics.
I have no opinion so far as Lynda.com. Personally I’ve never needed to watch or learn anything from those videos, but some people say it’s helpful. For a newbie such as yourself–it probably would not be a bad idea.
Also–try to search here for topics. There is a ton of helpful info at this site.
A huge bit of advice: Definitely stick around here. Ask all the questions you want. Everyone here is willing to help answer your questions, and in many cases–look at your files to help. There are no stupid questions or anything. We all were newbies at one time, and I think I can say everyone here will answer your questions and help guide you.
It may take a day or so before some replies, but most times answers come quickly. I know I log-in three or four times a day.
If you can give us more info about your project(s), that would be very helpful.

MemberI always search for the names and replace with a no-break character style. Other times I’ve added the names to my hyphenation exception list and tell them not to hyphenate (by adding a tilde in front of it).
I know some people who set their hyphenation so it doesn’t hyphenate capitalized words. That will pretty much ensure names, names of places, etc. don’t break. But neither will any other capitalized words.

Memberupdate–rebuilt preferences and still the same thing. Also does it in CC2015.
I wonder if it’s something to do with Sierra.
I can still select the master pages, but it sucks that half the right side is cut off. They seem to extend beyond the panel width, and making it wider has no effect.
I guess I may have to learn to live with it.

MemberSorry–GPU. Don’t know why I typed GUI. Seems weird I may have to rebuild my preferences as I’ve only used CC2017 once or twice.
Would that explain why I’m getting what looks like Guide rules on my pages that disapapear when I scroll down and then back up. Turning off the GPU seemed to fix that.

MemberI’m not sure why it’s inconsistent on some pages. I’ve had a page where the space didn’t show up, then pages where there was a space. I’m not sure why it renders that way.
I just know that it treats a soft return as a space.
Dwayne Harris
MemberInDesign treats the soft return as a space. Why I have no idea. But it’s been like that for years and years.
You either need to use a no break to rebreak the line, or tweak with the left and right indents to force words down.

MemberI’m not sure if I totally understand, but have you written character styles for italic, bold, small caps, etc? Normally–create those and then search and replace (i.e., search for italic and replace with the italic character style).
That way, when you apply a paragraph style to the paragraph, the italic and bold, etc. will remain.
Dwayne Harris
MemberWell, the table definitely works because you can tell it to top align.
But if it’s just regular text (I take it one single column separated by tabs), then you can’t automate that. For the description that goes to the second line, I think you will have to cut and paste into the first line.

MemberHopefully you’ll get it figured out, Dixie.
Maybe try a test and once you export the .rtf file, resave it was a Word file? And see how that imports back in?
Dwayne Harris
MemberI’ve never had a problem with losing styles (or having it be default) when importing RTF files. But then again when I exported to RTF I didn’t use any plug-ins, but just used InDesign’s export feature (no plug-in required). I wonder if the plug-in is causing the problem (when it exports).
Dwayne Harris
MemberThat was my first thought. It looks (and sounds like due to the subject title) that several text boxes were used.
If that’s the case Sayed, you can only have one text frame per page (threaded to each other).
Dwayne Harris
MemberGood luck! :) :)

MemberAt my company, we have to have single-document files and they have to be one single, long-threaded story.
