David BlatnerKeymasterThis is multiple docs in a book panel? If so, I find that in general I need to have all the documents open when I export the PDF from the book panel. Shouldn't have to, but it seems like each version of InDesign makes multi-document books more and more clunky, especially when it comes to hyperlinks, cross-references, etc.
David BlatnerKeymasterWhat is a Table of Authority?
Table of Contents? There are Table of Contents tools under the Layout menu.
David BlatnerKeymasterIf each bullet is in its own paragraph, then you'll need 5 different paragraph styles. But you can use the Next Styles feature to “link” them one after the other. Then use the “apply paragraph style then next” feature (search our site for details) to apply them all, perhaps.

David BlatnerKeymasterI'd suggest checking out my lynda.com title InDesign Essential Training, or my book Real World InDesign or some good training materials. It sounds as though you want to place and auto-place multiple pages with a Shift-click of the Place cursor.
David BlatnerKeymasterStrange that your measurements are changing. What do the rulers show around your document? If you right-click on the area where the two rulers meet, you should be able to change them both to inches (or whatever you want) and then the rulers and the Print dialog box should show in inches (or whatever you choose).
David BlatnerKeymasterI don't see any compelling reason to use the book feature (the book panel) with 115 pages. I'd just do it in a single document.
Instead of turning off the master page, you might have just overridden the master page object(s) by command/ctrl-shift-clicking on them. Or creating a different master page and applying that one instead.

David BlatnerKeymasterThere are a couple. Typefi has AutoFit. And the AutoPage feature in BlatnerTools (blatnertools.com) also gives you more options.
David BlatnerKeymasterIf you actually deleted them, you may need to reinstall the software. But I would look inside the InDesign application folder. Perhaps they are still there, but in a different (disabled) folder.
David BlatnerKeymasterI don't think there is any way to do this besides manually or scripting. Very strange that it would change like that. Of course, the bleed guides are just guides, so it is perhaps not important that you change them.

David BlatnerKeymasterRight: If you choose grayscale from InDesign, it is only sending grayscale to your printer driver. Your printer driver is then converting that to RGB or four-color-CMYK to make it look “better.” So you need to change the printer driver setting, not InDesign.
(I do the same thing; color toner is painfully expensive! You can buy a new color printer for almost the same cost as replacing the toner. Gr.)

David BlatnerKeymasterThat looks great (especially if you had lots of stories), but don't forget that there is already a feature in InDesign designed to do this for an imported story: The Clear All Overrides button at the bottom of the Paragraph Styles panel. Just select all the text and click it.
If you need more fine-tuned control over what formatting is saved and what is removed, you might consider looking at the Remove Local Overrides feature in the Blatner Tools suite (blatnertools.com)
David BlatnerKeymasterMy initial guess is that the printer has an old RIP and doesn't even know that in the 21st century much of the banding problems have been solved by in-rip dithering software. It's never going to be perfect, but this just doesn't come up as much. It's like people who say InDesign's pdfs are bad because they can't get CID fonts to print. The problem is not InDesign, it's the printer's RIP. I would try to find a printer that can accept PDF/X-4 files (using a rip that can actually print PDF files) if possible.
David BlatnerKeymasterI'd take a look at Zevrix's Batch output and Rorohiko's Text Exporter.
David BlatnerKeymasterEach level is a different paragraph style.
InDesign is definitely not Word. :)
David BlatnerKeymasterI don't have a solution for you, sorry. But I have to ask: Why on earth would you ever send an IDML file to a printer? That would scare the pants off me. IDML is NOT a seamless downsave. Things DO change.
If you want to send a file to a printer, send them a PDF file! That way everyone can look at it and make sure it is correct before it is printed.
