David BlatnerKeymasterThat is one option. I'm told the PDF to Word feature in Acrobat XI is pretty good. Another option is to use ID2Office from recosoft.com which might be better in other ways? I haven't compared them directly.
David BlatnerKeymasterThat's odd. I would try restarting InDesign. If cmd-ctrl-H still doesn't work, then check to make sure it's still set up properly in Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts. If so, then perhaps rebuild preferences.
October 18, 2012 at 9:39 am in reply to: Does the span column feature in InD 6 allow for custom column widths? #63397
David BlatnerKeymasterUnfortunately, no… the anchored object method is one of the better ways to accomplish this, sadly.
David BlatnerKeymasterGreat question. Probably no way to avoid it unless you remove the colors in Word. If the colors are in Word's paragraph styles, then you could use Style Mapping to map those styles to your own styles… but usually those colors are applied as local formatting, so it is hard to avoid.
David BlatnerKeymasterThis is one of the difficulties with tables and footnotes.
If your tables are very simple like this, then you could use the Split Columns feature in CS5+ instead of a table.
Another idea is to use this script to adjust your numbers (+1):
David BlatnerKeymasterAbsolutely… here's more on how to do that with the Page tool:

David BlatnerKeymasterThanks, but sadly not… jet lag from my recent trip to a conference in Europe. But it's nice and quiet before the kids get up in the morning, too. :)
David BlatnerKeymasterThat IS annoying! I actually had never noticed that InDesign acts this way… the bottom edge of the last row is “the same” as the top edge of the first row in the next frame. That makes sense when the table is in one frame, but not in this case.
However, you can fool it: Apply the line to the last row of the table (at the very end of the table), then select that row and choose Table > Convert to > Footer. That applies the line at the end of every page. You can leave that row blank and it will just be a “line row.”
David BlatnerKeymasterYou would have to do this in two or three steps. First drag the right edge of the table. Then you could select the entire table and change the height of all the rows (for example, by changing the Row Height from “At Least” to “Exactly” and then choose how tall you want them.

David BlatnerKeymasterAre you talking about “bookmarks” which show up only in Acrobat, in the Bookmarks panel?
Or are you talking about building a “Table of Contents” with links to sections in your book? A table of contents actually shows up on your document page.

David BlatnerKeymasterThis is a big topic. Great idea for a blog post.
In this image, which I think describes your example, you would turn on the Use Spacing checkbox in the Distribute Spacing section, type in 1p, and then click the Distribute Vertical Spacing:

If you don't see Distribute Spacing, choose “More Options” in the panel menu.
In general, Distribute Spacing means “adjust the space between the objects.”
