David BlatnerKeymasterThis is because the asterisk is a “reserved” character in grep, so you have to “escape” it with a backslash. Not sure if this will come across properly, but you would search for
\*\*\*.+\*\*\*
David BlatnerKeymasterThis is not a bug or a flaw in the program. This is the way InDesign works. When a page changes from a left- to a right-hand page, the master page is reapplied. If you think about it, it makes sense and is the way it should work most of the time.
If you need to add or remove pages in a facing-pages document, then always add/remove an even number of pages each time.
David BlatnerKeymasterAh, I see that in your original post now. Sorry.
But remember you can use:
* Based on master pages (where one master page is based on another)
* Synchronize Options (where you can synchronize master pages across all documents in a book)I don’t know if this will work, but it’s good to know about.
David BlatnerKeymasterIf you used the “auto page number” character, then yes, it is separate from the master page. It’s just a normal character (type > insert special character > markers > current page number), so it doesn’t matter if it is on a document page or a master page.
David BlatnerKeymasterI doubt there is any magic. Perhaps run the script on the master pages, too? Or you could hire a scripter to extend the sample script that is there.
But if your master pages are set up well, it should take about 2 minutes to modify a master page, right?
David BlatnerKeymasterThis was a big part of The Creative Developers Summit in Chicago a few weeks ago, yes? I hope that Adobe will make some of those instructions easily available.
David BlatnerKeymasterTom, I’m not sure if you’re asking how to design pieces or how to learn InDesign better to create the pieces? I usually do recommend re-creating other work to learn how to build it. What do you find has not been useful about that?
David BlatnerKeymasterNo need to find on disk. That was just waaaaay back in the CS2 days.
You can find them in the Scripts panel (window > utilities > scripts panel). Look inside Application > Samples > Javascript
David BlatnerKeymasterNot sure… sounds like a complex document. Try these blog posts:

David BlatnerKeymasterSorry for the disappearing forum post; our forum software sometimes (fortunately rarely) tags things as spam that aren’t. I have no idea why it did so on this post.
I have never seen that CEPHTML engine error. That sounds very odd. I would suggest rebuilding your prefs:
https://creativepro.com/resources/faq#143It’s possible that you’ll need to uninstall and reinstall. Another possibility, however, is: Are you using any third-party plug-ins? Those generally need to be updated when you upgrade the software, too.
David BlatnerKeymasterThat does not happen for me. Very strange. Are you sure, when you open find/change again, that you are still in GREP? Maybe it changed to the Text tab?
David BlatnerKeymasterCheck out this script:
https://creativepro.com/adjust-position-of-objects-when-pages-reflow.phpDidn’t know you already had that script on your computer, did you?! ;-D
July 9, 2014 at 1:14 pm in reply to: How do I fix a 'Linked Item within this placed file has been modified'? #69419
David BlatnerKeymasterYou will need to open the InDesign document that was placed into your InDesign document (just select it in Links panel and click Edit Original button). Then fix the links. Then save and close. That should do it.
