David BlatnerKeymasterPerhaps you can fix this with the No Break style? If you select the word along with the backslash and apply No Break, it should stay together. Yes?

David BlatnerKeymasterYou can only create a table of contents based on paragraph styles. But when you create the TOC, the character styles should come with the text.

David BlatnerKeymasterYou could do a grep find/change and search for
^+?(.)and replace with$1
That will delete one or more spaces at the beginning of any paragraph.November 21, 2014 at 9:42 am in reply to: Styling TOC with paragraph styles AND caracter styles #71768
David BlatnerKeymasterYou do or do not want the character styles? Normally, InDesign does include the character styles when you make a TOC.
David BlatnerKeymasterIn what version of InDesign? In CC (maybe CS6 too?) they fixed that… or at least it is much closer. But in earlier versions we had to use a script such as:
https://creativepro.com/custom-zoommagnification-settings-in-indesign.php
David BlatnerKeymasterThat’s what this script is for:
https://creativepro.com/free-script-to-change-all-numbers-in-a-document-using-math.phpBut I’m not sure if it works in CS2. That’s very very old software.
David BlatnerKeymasterI don’t think so. You could go into Presentation Mode (Shift-W), which makes the background black by default, so you can’t see the black line.

David BlatnerKeymasterAdobe seems to think it’s safe: https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/mac-os-yosemite-compatability.html
David BlatnerKeymasterI always suggest people use auto numbering instead of page numbering in weird situations like this: https://creativepro.com/use-numbered-lists-instead-of-auto-page-numbering.php
Of course, some stuff simply can’t be done then, such as TOC and indexing and x-refs.

David BlatnerKeymasterYes, there seems to be something buggy or weird here. When I try other shortcuts for that character (the default shortcut is ctrl-option-cmd-M) some work and some don’t! I tried Ctrl-Shift-spacebar and that did work.

David BlatnerKeymasterDid you also upgrade your system or computer? On the Mac, especially, the Keyboard settings inside System Preferences often override InDesign’s shortcuts. Fortunately, you can disable those in System Prefs.
