David BlatnerKeymasterIt’s a good idea, but I don’t know any way to make InDesign do that. Maybe with APID from Rorohiko?
David BlatnerKeymasterAh, I see. It’s in the “Panel Menus” section… see this post for how I found it:
https://creativepro.com/where-is-this-keyboard-shortcut-hiding.php
and
David BlatnerKeymasterWhen you say “that is the only way I can get it to display correctly,” what do you mean? What happens if you scale it down?
If it’s a matter of needing to scale the puzzle and the clues differently, I suggest placing the PDF twice, scaling them differently, and then cropping out the parts you don’t need in each frame.
David BlatnerKeymasterMaybe FormMagic would help? Not sure:
David BlatnerKeymasterPaula, can you send me a small file with this problem in it? Just email the file to me at david at indesignsecrets dot com. I’m so curious now…
David BlatnerKeymasterNothing has changed with shortcuts in CC 2017, as far as I know. What are you trying to set up?
David BlatnerKeymasterThere’s also a script here, but I’m not sure if it will do what you need: https://creativepro.com/topic/replace-fonts-in-all-documents-in-a-book
David BlatnerKeymasterHard to know… when you export a PDF, is the text all there? Or does it get cut off?
David BlatnerKeymasterOh, that was silly of me. Yes, the hair space is non-breaking by default. I had forgotten that.
So… it sounds like that is what your client wants… yes?
David BlatnerKeymasterThat is very baffling! But the lines go away when you have Preview mode turned on, right? Do they show up when you export a PDF or any other kind of file? I strongly suggest sending PDF files to your printer (not your InDesign files), so if they aren’t in the PDF, then it’s probably fine.
You’re sure these aren’t document or baseline grids? Or just page rules? Something on the master page?
David BlatnerKeymasterYou would probably have to use a combination of a Hair Space (or some other small white space) and the No Break formatting.
David BlatnerKeymasterThat’s a clever use of Flush Space… I never thought of that before. But I get the same result as you! I tried a number of different fonts. Yes, this may be a bug. Certainly unexpected.
Here’s a different technique you could try: Use a Rule Below that spans the entire column, and a Rule Above that is Paper (to knock out the rule below) the spans just the text… You’ll need to adjust the vertical and horizontal offsets of the Rule Above to get it looking just right.
David BlatnerKeymasterThis is a huge discussion. We had a 1/2 day about creating Accessible PDF files at The InDesign Conference last November in DC, and we may have even more at our event in Atlanta. There are no “flick this switch and it will all work” answers, unfortunately.
I’m not sure what you mean by disabling the row header… are you using Table > Convert Rows > to Header?
