David BlatnerKeymasterTry clicking the Printer button at the bottom of the Print dialog box. That opens the Printer driver dialog box. Look in there for some setting that might be causing problems. For example, I wonder if it is set to “Draft” print mode, which tries to save toner/ink by printing everything gray. Or perhaps there is a color management setting which is trying to be helpful (and failing).

David BlatnerKeymasterOlav Martin Kvern created a “convert to side heading” script for when we wrote Real World InDesign. It takes a heading paragraph into an anchored frame and moves the frame to the correct position. However, I tried it now and it’s not working… do you want me to ask Ole if he can fix it?
David BlatnerKeymasterLOL, yes, you are forgiven John! I appreciate Masood’s comments about learning by experimenting, but we are a friendly community of InDesign users and everyone needs a question answered sometimes.
Yes, text (or any object) can have both a fill and a stroke color, and that is separate from the features in the Effects panel. Good luck with your studies!
David BlatnerKeymasterTwo things come to mind:
First, this does not make sense: “The image in indesign has the Uncoated 220TAC profile assigned.”
The image should have the RGB profile, not a CMYK profile (if it is an RGB image).Second, my guess is that you are trusting Acrobat’s preview too much. It sometimes lies! See:
I have a course on color management at lynda.com/LinkedIn Learning, which may be helpful!

David BlatnerKeymasterNick: That is just really weird. It works fine for me, even with a broken document. Is it possible that you are using some third-party tool such as WordsFlow from Em Software? (They have their own word-linking system that, I think, replaces InDesign’s.)

David BlatnerKeymasterThe “Unlink” feature lives in the Links panel menu (in the upper-right corner of the panel). It is right after “Go to Link.” I see it just fine in CC 2017.
(If you don’t see it, perhaps you need to rebuild your preferences. Search our site for details.)
David BlatnerKeymasterOne of the first things I’d look for is if you have any third-party plug-ins/add-ons. For example, often people have a font management system (like Suitcase) and it may install a plug-in into InDesign. Then if you upgrade InDesign, you MUST upgrade the plug-in, too. Old plug-ins can cause terrible crashing.
David BlatnerKeymasterCharlotte, I find that these forums work best when you ask a very specific question. Your project sounds fascinating and huge. I would suggest checking out many of the videos on Lynda.com (LinkedIn Learning) — search for “interactive PDF”.
Unfortunately, I don’t know of many good solutions for getting 3D CAD drawings into InDesign… I believe you typically need to take them through an intermediary, such as Illustrator.
David BlatnerKeymasterClayton, you probably don’t need GREP for that. If you’re using an image, you could use this trick:
https://creativepro.com/find-text-change-to-graphic.phpOr, if the fleuron is a character in a font, it’s even easier with Find/Change.
David BlatnerKeymasterYes, clearly something is “color managing” the color along the way, so that 100% black is being converted. It could be in the Print dialog box or it could be in the printer driver.
Some questions:
* Is it a PostScript printer, or a non-ps printer? If it is a PS printer, it would probably have a PPD showing at the top of the Print dialog box (though it may be grayed out)
* Have you tried turning on the “Text as Black” checkbox in the Output pane of the Print dialog box?
* What happens if you export to PDF and print from Acrobat or Reader?
* What are you choosing in the Color popup menu in the Output pane of the Print dialog box? Even if it’s a B&W printer, I would leave that set that to RGB
David BlatnerKeymasterI think this still works:

David BlatnerKeymasterI agree with Masood… PowerHeaders is the best tool for doing complex headings.
David BlatnerKeymasterIf those graphics are characters in a font, you could easily do this with GREP styles in InDesign (just change the font using a character style).
Otherwise, there are scripts and more manual ways to do it, such as:

and these scripts:
