David BlatnerKeymasterI wrote more on this subject this week here:

David BlatnerKeymasterLOL, in my opinion everything about XML is too complicated. My opinion is that people should try all possible alternatives and then only use XML if it is the only option. :-)
Have you tried Data Merge? Or a third-party tool such as InData? Often those are far easier.
David BlatnerKeymasterWhile you could probably do that with an XSLT or a script run at import, in general I believe you just need to clean it up later.
However, I just found this script on the Adobe forum that might help? https://forums.adobe.com/thread/980946
David BlatnerKeymaster#1: Publish Online is still a “work in progress,” and I agree that they need to do much more for accessibility. In general, the best option would be a reflowable HTML option or using PDF.
#2: There is no security for Publish Online docs. While it’s extremely unlikely that anyone would guess a URL, it may be possible. (I don’t know how much PubOnline docs are crawled by search engines. It’s on Adobe’s servers, so there’s probably no way to stop it fully.) Security is one reason some companies choose to use a commercial product for HTML export, such as in5 from ajarproductions.
David BlatnerKeymasterRobert, it’s a bit unclear to me which part of this you are having trouble with. Is it making running headers? Or the reversed text in the bar that extends automatically?
There are a lot of different pieces that come together in your design.
I’ve made a test file for you here that you can open and play with.
This uses Paragraph Rules for the reversed text that extends automatically, and Text Variables for adding the headers on the master page.
Here are some articles on these topics:

David BlatnerKeymasterMichel, please don’t leave short replies like this… it is not helpful for the reader or anyone else. It is not simple or simplistic to someone who does not know the tool well.

David BlatnerKeymasterHm… I suppose you could put a large frame over the whole page and make it a button that doesn’t do anything. Of course, that would cover up any interactive objects that actually do do things, if you have any. Hm…
David BlatnerKeymasterHard to know, but one possibility is that the 3rd image has transparency in it:

David BlatnerKeymasterAdobe’s SDK materials are all now at: https://console.adobe.io/downloads/id
You might want to come to the Creative Developers Summit to learn more about InDesign and CC development. The next one will be at CreativePro Week in New Orleans next June (cdevsummit.com)
David BlatnerKeymasterShould be okay, but you can test it by opening Window > Output > Separations Preview. That will help you determine what is getting knocked out and what each plate will look like.
David BlatnerKeymasterAn InDesign file is actually a database, and when you do a save as, it saves all its little database tables anew, which can cause changes like this. I would do a save as IDML and then open the IDML to see if that clears up any gunk in the system. That’s an even more low-level clean-up.
David BlatnerKeymasterMy guess is that the “High Res Convert to Outlines” you had seen was built by you or someone else… as you saw in the link from Lindsey, that technique requires Acrobat 4 export, transparency on all pages, and a custom Transparency Blend Space.
The Acrobat DC option is probably better, but I have an irrational resistance to updating to Acrobat DC, and I’m still on v11. Someday I’ll get there.
David BlatnerKeymasterYour list is kind of like a list… I wonder if Peter Kahrel’s Update Index script would help? https://www.kahrel.plus.com/indesign/lists_indexes.html
