I’m starting on a book and I’ve set the styles etc. Every time I place the Word doc in the file, ID crashes (no crash report, just gets jammed and then through the task manager I see its not responding).
I tried saving the file as a different version of Word.

Is there anything else I can do?

Is the doc heavy on images? I use FileJuicer to remove all the images and import the resultant .rtf file.
Alternatively, I’ve had Hebrew/English files crash InDesign…bizarrely, I open a clean InDesign file and drag the errant doc from the desktop and into the file and it’s worked (rather than using CMD-D (place).

      Save the file as RTF.

      No images at all.
      Very minimal Hebrew, but some.

An .rtf file removes formating, does it not?
In any case, it crashed ID as well :(

I tried dragging it in and that didn’t work either.

I rtied placing an rtf in a blank new file, that crashed as well.

        ?? ????? ???? – ????? ?? ????? ???? ?????
        Obviously it didn’t do Hebrew!
I said, send me the file and I’ll check!

Thanks for sending the Word file privately.
It was a heavily complex file, I sent you the resultant InDesign file via WeTransfer.

TXT removes formating, RTF does not.

Steve, nice work! What did you do to fix it?
