Apologies if this has been covered here elsewhere… I sought but did not find.

tl;dr Is there a way to check if TOC Styles in a long doc are unused?

I have a long document that has been leveraged and versioned over and over for years, picking up previous books to build new ones. Not an uncommon practice, I know. It’s fallen into my care.

When I look at Table of Content Styles, I see eight of them, none in use, as far as I can see. I’m happy to start over with one new style but just in case… I’m wondering if there’s a way to see if all TOC Styles are indeed unused before I go deleting them. My preference, especially in a long and complex document, is to only have what’s needed in there.

No, I don’t know of any way to tell if they’ve been used. They’re called “Styles” but they’re not really styles… that is, they’re not linked to TOCs in the doc, so changing them doesn’t change the document. They’re more like “Print or PDF Presets”

      I’d just delete ’em. :-)
