I subscribe to The Economist through Amazon, and read it on my iPad. At some point during the last year, the format changed so that it looks like an actual magazine. While I find it easier to navigate and read content in single-column format, I realize that this level of design is what the next generation will expect–so I need to learn how to do that.

I can create a magazine in InDesign CS6, I can export ID files to EPUB for a book, but I don't know how to create and EPUB magazine.

@David and Anne-Marie, through your videos on Lynda.com you've taught me how to create e-books, now I'd like to request you teach me (and others) how to create an e-magazine at the level of The Economist.

      Thanks,

      Buck

Wow I'll check that out asap!

I'm assuming it's using the new features in the MOBI8 (KF8/Kindle Fire ver of the MOBI file format) spec.

I've been saying it for months, EPUB and DPS are starting to merge … at least the display and interactive features …

Is this what you're talking about?

If so, I don't believe they used InDesign to create it. They either program the iOS and Java apps themselves or use something like Adobe's Digital Publishing Suite. They charge on a per-issue basis for this product though I don't know much else about it.

      Hi amygil.

You may be right, and fortunately it's scheduled to become a part of Adobe Creative Cloud and it seems to be based on InDesign.

I need to learn how to use it.

      Thanks
