Hello, is anyone aware of a script (free or reasonably priced) that will do what WoodWing SmartStyles will do with tables. The thing is, a robust sort tables option would be great in InDesign, but I cannot justify the purchase of SmartStyles only for that reason. There is a script called tablesort.jsx, but it is quite limited and does not properly sort. It would be great for a simple alphabetization, but not for more complex sorts, the kind of which SmartStyles will do. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm not sure what aspects of Smart Styles you're referring to… there are so many! Are you interested only in sorting?

SmartStyles is very good. But ID has basic table and cell styles built in. Or, if you're still using CS2, you could use the Teacup Software plug-ins.

Also, if you want info on calculating total in tables, check out this post.

David, I am refering to the “sort” option that SmartStyles adds to the “Tables” menu in ID (https://www.woodwing.com/en/hig…..rt-styles). I am currently using CS4. Where the trial of SmartStyles came in handy was a project that I had done with hundreds of biblical citations in a biblical references index. The indexing was challenging enough, but when I populated the index, the references were not in the proper order. For the most part, it group Genesis together and Mark together, etc., but then I would have had to go and manually organize them in the right order. With SmartStyles, I converted text to table and then ran a sort function on the table and voila! it was sorted correctly. I tried in vain to get tablesort.jsx to do the same. It's a complex sort because the sort is alphanumeric with colons, dashes, commas and periods in there too. Now, the fact that SmartStyles will also do calculations in tables is an added bonus. If I could just buy the table features, I would be set, but it does not appear that I can. I hope this helps clarify the kind of sorting that I am working with and exactly what features of smartstyles I am refering to. Although SmartStyles is quite a plugin, I guess for my needs at the moment, the only feature that really interests me is the sorting feature, and they have truly done a remarkable job with it. If there was anything out there that was comparable, but only worked with sorting tables, it would be nice to know. Thanks.
