      Hello,
I know that InDesign has the Black (K:100) option by default but is there a way to also have Rich Black (I’m using C:40 M:30 Y:30 K:100) in there every time I start a new document?

With no documents open you can add in your swatches in the Swatch Panel.

That will be the default going forward.

That is until you reset your preferences or get an upgrade for InDesign the panels will reset.

To combat this, create all your swatches you usually use and use the swatch panel menu to save your swatches to a handy location for yourself.

Then you can load your swatches to InDesign, Illustrator or Photosohp (or other app).

Another very convenient way is to load your swatches into InDesign CC Libraries.

Yes, the key is always to make changes with no docs open:
      https://creativepro.com/more-often-than-not-changing-indesign-defaults.php

Note that any changes you make in the “no pub state” are only saved when you actually quit InDesign. (So if you make changes and then 2 hours later you crash, you’ll have to make the changes again. So I like to quit and relaunch after making changes to the defaults.)
