I have a high end book with hand drawn illustrations (cartoon type with black lines around objects). This will be published as a book and also each page will be a poster. Book size is 5.5 x 8.5 and the poster size is 24″ x 36″.
I would like to have only one image. I’m planning on scanning the artwork to 12″ x 18″ at 600 ppi.
Placement percentage of the image for the book is 45%, making the effective resolution 1333 ppi.
Placement percentage of the image for the poster is 200%, making the effective resolution 300 ppi.
My question, since this is a high end book, will the images suffer quality because I’m letting InDesign, (which isn’t a raster image processor), resize the images or should I make sure the original 12×18 is approved, then resize in Photoshop for the book and then again for the Poster.
I’m looking to see if anyone else has followed this workflow and had success or failure.
thanks in advance!
