      Hi.

I’m searching for some information about digital magazines and already talked with a lot of companies about publication and so on. The problem is I still didn’t find what I want, and maybe it’s because I’m not understanding the process correctly, and maybe someone can help me on that:

      1. I already have the magazine layout for printing, so that’s not a problem.

      2. I did some testing exporting as Interactive PDF, put videos, audio and links. Worked fine in Acrobat and some web platforms like Magzter.

      3. If I work with EPUB and can animate some objects, scroll text and so on (did some tests too), but I didn’t find any service like Magzter where I can publish it.

      4. My main problem is decide how to work. PDF is easy and EPUB gives me more options and more interactivity, but how to distribute it? What options do I have to sell a magazine in EPUB format?

      5. If we create a Ipad app to users buy/download issues, I think the best format for generating the files will be EPUB too, so even if takes time to develop the app, will be good to start in the correct format since now.

Sorry for asking that, I just a little bit confused and not sure about what to do.

      Thanks,
      Luiz

The decision of delivery mechanism is the third leg of a three legged stool and connected to what format you think would be most appropriate for your content. I am not speaking from experience, because we have done exploring but not settled on a way to take our print magazine into digital. In the research I have done, it seems how you plan to deliver will impact the choice of format and vis versa.

There are lots of companies who are offering delivery services eg. offering the means to get your magazine onto iPads or Android tablets. Some seem to basically a conduit for pdfs, others like Adobe DPS are a format and delivery system.

If you or your organization can afford it, go to Pepcon this June. This will give you a jump start on what is out there and you might meet others like you who have already made the leap into digital.

Or hire a consultant like Kieth Gilbert to help you steer through the choppy waters of deciding which of the many options is appropriate.

      Dear FrederickYocum,

We are just starting to understand the market and possibilities and after reading what you wrote I think we need some more market research before taking any decision.

Thanks for your message, I’ll discuss here about Pepcon and Keith Gilbert and rethink the process. :)

      Have a great Thursday!
      Luiz
