last night I was working on a rather large indesign document, that today will not open. I have earlier versions, but the amount of edits I made yesterday were unarguably extensive and time consuming. I’m on the same computer, using CS6, and I keep getting this message:

“Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application.”

I’ve read through research that this could mean that the file for some reason did not save properly, but could also mean a whole bag of other things that unfortunately I do not know how to fix.

When I saved it, I also saved a pdf version, so I do have that. I am wondering if there is any way to open the pdf file in adobe reader, save it as readable and editable file that I can then open and make edits to in indesign? Its a 90 page document with loads of text and images all the way through. Any advice would be profoundly appreciated.

      Thanks
      Sara

Make sure the file extension of the file is .indd.

Restart your computer (to make sure the file is not open in another application).

Yep, did this. Wish it was that easy! So far I have:

saved the file as a copy and tried to open it elsewhere.

tried to open as a copy.

      tried opening on another computer.

      opened as a prior version.

      restarted the computer.

Yet still the same problem unfortunately. At the moment I am importing the pdf page by page into illustrator and making edits on there.
