I think my original question was to complicated. I’ve broken it down to hopefully be more clear. If you know the answer to ‘My Question to You All’ then you won’t need to read the rest of the question unless you are interested to know about this major flaw in later versions of InDesign.

      MY QUESTION TO YOU ALL
Where are the import options for importing PDF files in InDesign? If I can see how CS5.5 is set up, I can change all the later InDesign versions to match it.

      OVERVIEW
Unless you insert PDF images into InDesign CS5.5, or use a document that was originally created in InDesign CS5.5, the colours used in the PDF you have imported do not print accurately in all later versions of InDesign.

      CONCLUSION
What is it that is different in InDesign CS5.5? The difference is definitely at the point when you first insert the image – the import settings must be different in CS5.5 to the later versions.

      BREAKDOWN TO EXPLAIN THE CONCLUSION
      (1) If you insert a PDF into InDesign CS6, CC, CC2014, CC2015, CC2017 – it prints with colours that DO NOT match the PDF you have inserted. The colours can be slightly different and can range to extremely different.

      (2) If you insert the same PDF image into InDesign CS5.5 it WILL PRINT WITH THE SAME COLOURS AS THE PDF IMAGE. So CS5.5 is OK and all the others are wrong.

      (3) If you call this CS5.5 file up in CS6, CC, CC2014, CC2015, CC2017 – it prints with the CORRECT COLOURS. So if you use a CS5.5 file as a template it will be OK in later versions of InDesign.

      (4) If you insert a PDF into CC2017 for example, make an idml file and open it in CS5.5. IT WILL PRINT WITH THE WRONG COLOURS.

      (5) If you open the CC2017 idml file in CS5.5, then make a new CS5.5 file and paste the PDF image from the CC2017 idml into the new CS5.5 file – IT PRINTS WITH THE WRONG COLOURS.

      (6) THE ONLY WAY TO GUARANTEE THAT THE PDF IMAGE PRINTS WITH THE SAME COLOURS THAT ARE IN THE PDF IMAGE IS TO USE CS5.5 OR AN INDESIGN DOCUMENT THAT WAS ORIGINALLY CREATED IN CS5.5.
