I am aware of Optical Margin Alignment to create Hanging Punctuation on the ‘left side’ of my text frame, but are you able to do the same on the ‘right’ side of the text frame? I need all asterisks at end of multiple lines of text be hanging beyond the text box. I’d prefer not to do manually with tabs and indentation if possible. Any help??? Thank you in advance.

Hi Curtis, are you justifying your text or is it left-or right-aligned? I tried it with both justified text and right-aligned and using Optical Margin Alignment in the Story panel and it worked well. If doing left aligned text, you could add a right-aligned tab (shift-tab) and then add your asterisk, which would save you from having to manually set up tabs and indentation.

Hi Brent. I am wanting to do the attached, but without creating additional tabs if possible for the asterisks.
Text is left justtified with two tabs (in the example attached). Seems like there would be a way with out manually setting up additinal tab for asterisks?

I’m confused, Curtis. If the text is left aligned, then the asterisks would sit to the right of the “SF” like this without any special work or feature. What am I missing?

Well, if I have a tab set up for the numbers/SF to tab to the right, then the asterisks are forcing all the ‘SF’s to be “off” – see top screenshot below. I would like all SF aligned to the right and the asterisks to hang – see bottom screenshot. I was just hoping there was a way to ‘not’ set up an additional tab just for the asterisks (in the the bottom version of the screenshot). The Optical Margin Align creates ‘hanging indentation’ on the left – was just wondering if I could get that to accommodate hanging on the right? Am I explaining correctly?

OH! I get it now. There is a tab before SF.
Yes, this is totally doable… you need to use a Decimal tab stop and set the Align On field to the asterisk. See this article:
