Numeric keypad shortcut failure

For a couple of years now I mainly work InDesign on my Macbook Pro, what I miss dearly is the ability to work with shortcuts for paragraph styles. Since they require a numeric keypad.
Than last week it hit me: I decided to buy a Belkin €60 wireless keypad.
The thing works perfectly, with only a serious downer, when I use it in conjunction with the Command key things don’t work. So still no keyboard shortcuts.

Surely I am not the first to work IDD on a MPB, so i’m wondering how it should be done.

Yes, this has been a frustration for many years. I’ll post a couple of blog articles below that might help. Also, the PowerStyles/Blatner Tools plug-ins from DTPTools.com let you assign any keyboard shortcut you want to any style (up to 10). It’s not perfect, but it does help a lot of people.

Thanks for your feedback David, what really bugs me is why your keyboard will not let Command-Keypad strokes work, for no apparant reason, apart from the fact that they are two seperate entities, perhaps I should inquire with Belkin.

BTW: both QuicKeys and iKey seem to have vanished, I used QuickKeys with joy in the past. So long for progress.

Yes, I think you should check with Belkin about why the Command key isn’t working with those numeric keys.

If you’re looking for a macro program, I use Keyboard Maestro.

I’ve always used the “control” key with another letter. My shortcut for a discretionary hyphen is control + H, discretionary line break is control + B etc.
