I poked around the forum here and at adobe.com and have not yet found a solution to this issue…
I work with large number of image files. They typically come in from the photographer as TIFF files and then get ingested and renamed with our company’s official naming structure so it gets a unique file name and number. Occasionally, of course, the designers want to monkey with the images before they are ingested (which takes a day or two). That means discontinuous naming.
Our IT metatags the renamed, ingested files with a custom field, “Original Filename.” So I have hundreds of image files with an “official” file name, and the original file name hidden in metadata. I thought I could make a quick image catalog in InDesign and generate captions showing both file names. That would be a very easy, already-scripted process that could give me an easy index I could share, and save me a few trips to Bridge.
BUT… the metadata fields I may choose to add to captions is limited to a specific set of metatags, not custom metatags like “Original Filename.” So here is my question:
Is there a way to edit the Metatags drop down menu (for captions) to include a custom tag?
