      Hello all,

I’m a newcomer concerning the art of logo design, and really any advice from those with a bit more experience will go a long way. Over the past month or so, I have been undertaking a few projects, and while I’m starting to get into the swing of things, there’s still a lot I’m not sure about. I’d love to hear your thoughts and advice on a few of the key areas that I’ve been struggling with.

First of all, how do you get into a brand new logo design project from scratch? You take it as a process-influenced inspiration, drawing, or just dive right into digital? I try working with different workflows, but I’m not really sure what is the most efficient or effective way to develop a strong idea. How do you balance creativity with client expectations when a client may not even know what they want?

Another area that really interests me is typography: how to select the right font for a logo, trying to balance readability with style. Are there rules you usually follow for such designs, particularly for more minimalistic or modern ones? The selection of font has been tricky since sometimes one needs to make decisions for business cards, websites, and even apparels, using one single font while retaining its personality.

I’m also trying to improve my understanding of color theory and how to use color effectively in logos. How do you decide on a color palette that suits the brand and resonates with the target audience? Do you have any tips or resources that helped you when you started out?

Last but not least, how do you handle client feedback? Sometimes, I’m caught reiterating revisions, as I feel the direction may not be clear, and it’s hard to know when to stand firm with a design decision instead of just giving them their way. And lastly, how do you handle client feedback? Sometimes, I am caught reiterating revisions, as I feel the direction may not be clear, and it is hard to know when to stand firm with a design decision instead of just giving them their way.

I know that’s a lot, but if you had any tips or advice based on your experiences that you feel could be relayed, that would be super helpful. What are some of the lessons you have picked up through growing your career as a logo designer? Thanks so much in advance for your input; greatly appreciated!

Have you got any formal design qualifications, like a degree or similar or are you deciding this might be a career path for you?

Well, it looks like Andrew may actually just be a spammer, based on his follow-up post (which we have removed). But his questions are actually really good ones!

We have a number of articles on our site about these kinds of topics, including:

Designing A Logo for Every Size & Usage

and actually CreativePro Magazine issue 34 discusses this directly:

Thank you for the references. Not thank you for calling me a spammer.

Ooops! Sorry, Andrew. My mistake. You put a link in your post that really looked like you were spamming with commercial content. Good luck with your projects and learning!

      Hey,

For starting a new logo design project, I usually recommend beginning with sketches or brainstorming before jumping into digital design. This helps in exploring different ideas and finding a strong concept. Balancing creativity with client expectations can be challenging, especially when the client isn’t sure what they want. It’s helpful to present a few options and guide them based on your expertise while keeping their feedback in mind.

When it comes to typography, choosing a font that’s both readable and stylish is key. For modern or minimalistic logos, stick to clean and simple fonts. Make sure the font works across different mediums like business cards and websites.

For color theory, selecting a palette that reflects the brand’s identity and appeals to the target audience is crucial. Resources like Adobe Color or Coolors can help in creating effective color schemes.

Handling client feedback can be tricky. It’s important to know when to stand firm on design choices and when to adapt based on client input. Clear communication and setting expectations upfront can help manage this.

I hope this helps! If you’re working on brand identity design services, these tips might be useful.

      Cheers!
